Variation in value of at higher altitude is given as, {tex}g_h = g\left ( 1-{2h\over R}\right ){/tex}
Here,gh is the value of acceleration due to gravity at height h above the surface of the Earth. Also, R is the radius of Earth.
Using it in the relation, we get,
{tex}{g\over 2} = g\left (1-{2h\over r}\right )\\=> {2h\over R} = {1\over 2}\\=> h = {R\over 4}{/tex}
Thus value of g will be its half at the height = {tex}{R\over 4}{/tex}, above the surface of the Earth, where R is the Radius of Earth.
