in 19th century Europe, the idea of national unity were closely related to the ideology of liberalism.Thr happenings of 1848 movements in France brought the reunciation of monarchy and a republic ,which was mainly based on the universal male franchise .While in countries like France , food shortages and widespread unemployment during 1848 led to popular uprisings,in other parts of Europe (such s Poland , Italy, Germany and the Austro - Hungrian Empire),men,and women of the liberal middle classes came together to voice their demands for the creation of nation states based on parliamentary principles.
