THe magnetic moment is a quantity (vector) that represents the direction and strength of the SOURCE of a magnetic field. This moment is the thing to take into account when calculating twisting forces that and object will feel if placed whitin another (external) magnetic field Magnetic field is a physical quantiy that exist in the space all around an object that demonstrates the characteristics that we define as a "magnet" . The field has a source (the place it origniates) which is represented by the magnetic moment. This field has enegy and hence the ability to do work.
