Symmetrical: The compounds which have equal number of carbons on either side of a functional group. (Additional- wurtz reaction can be used to increase the carbon chain length) Asymmetrical: The compound have unequal number of C atoms on either side of a functional group. (wurtz cannot be used in such a case)
