ROASTING : Roasting is the process in which a sulphide ore is strongly heated in the presence of air to convert it into metal oxide. EXAMPLE : 2 ZnS + 3 O₂--->2 ZnO + 2 SO₂. CALCINATION : Calcination is the process in which a carbonate ore is heated strongly in the absence of air to convert it into metal oxide. EXAMPLE : ZnCO₃---->ZnO + CO₂.
