A filter consists of a capacitor,which is connected in parallel to the load because it can't withstand the direct current from the supply! When the circuit is connected to the ac source,the capacitor gets charged when high ac current flows through it whereas it releases the charge stored in it if low current passes through the circuit thereby ensuring a constant current always flow through the circuit and hence producing a constant output
