In moving coil galvanometer, there is a current sensitive rectangular coil suspended in radial magnetic field. when small current ( 10 - 100 μA ) is passed in the coil it experiences a torque and deflect. This deflection is directly proportional to Current. A pointer is attached to the coil that moves in a graduated scale to indicate the current/voltage reading. the deflection is made one side to cover a long range of current/voltage. A high resistance connected in series with the galvanometer makes it as voltmeter to measure voltage. A Low resistance connected across the terminals of galvanometer makes it as Ammeter to measure current.
