Let the number of books be x

Therefore cost of each book = 8000/x

When he bought 40 more books with the same amount

Therefore then the total books is x+40

Therefore cost of each book would be = 8000/(40+x)

It is Rs. 10 less than the previous cost of each book

Therefore:-

8000/x - 8000(40+x) = 10

8000(1x - 1x+40  ) = 10 Solving this we get:- x2 +40x-32000 = 0Hence By this we get x=160

Therefore Totsl no. of books he bought is 160
