Steps of construction:

Draw line segment AB = 8cm.
Draw perpendicular bisector of AB which intersects AB at D.
Cut DC = 4cm. Join AC and BC. Thus, {tex}\triangle ABC{/tex} is the required triangle.
Draw an acute angle {tex}\angle BAX{/tex}.
Locate 3 points A₁, A₂ and A₃ on AX so that AA₁ = A₁A₂ = A₂A₃.
Join A₂B and draw A₃B'||A₂B.
Draw B'C' || BC.
{tex}\triangle AB'C'{/tex} is the required triangle.
