Steps of construction:

  1. Draw line segment AB = 8cm.
  2. Draw perpendicular bisector of AB which intersects AB at D.
  3. Cut DC = 4cm. Join AC and BC. Thus, {tex}\triangle ABC{/tex} is the required triangle.
  4. Draw an acute angle {tex}\angle BAX{/tex}.
  5. Locate 3 points A1, A2 and A3 on AX so that AA1 = A1A2 = A2A3.
  6. Join A2B and draw A3B'||A2B.
  7. Draw B'C' || BC.
  8. {tex}\triangle AB'C'{/tex} is the required triangle.
