The properties of compound are different from its constituent elements. Water which is a compound of oxygen and hydrogen has property to extinguish fire though its constituent elements do not possess this property.

Water is a compound of hydrogen and oxygen and properties of compounds are different from those of their inclusive elements, that's why water is used for extinguishing fire

Bcz water is a product of reaction of hydrogen & oxygen .and as a product of oxygen it has entirely new properties irrespective of what hydrogen and oxygen had . so it can not do the work as hydrogen or oxygen do
