In forward biasing p type is connected to positive terminal of battery and n type to negative. The electrons move from n type to p type and holes from p type to n type. This movement produces depletion layer with less thickness which initiates the conductivity. In reverse its exactly opposite. The thickness of depletion layer is very large due to which conduction is not possible.
