We have to show that tan4 θ + tan2 θ = sec4 θ – sec2 θ.
Here, tan2 θ or tan4 θ can be converted into sec2 θ.
So, LHS = tan4θ + tan2θ
= tan2 θ (tan2 θ + 1)
= (sec2 θ – 1) · sec2 θ [ because, tan2 θ = sec2 θ – 1 and tan2 θ + 1 = sec2 θ]
= sec4 θ – sec2 θ
= RHS
Hence, proved.
