1: Northern plains are formed by the interplay of the three rivers - the ganga, the brahmaputra and the indus with its tributaries. 2: there are huge deposits of alluvial soil. 3: there is a large population due to easy availability of water, land and moderate climate. 4: the upper part of Northern plain are above the flood plains and have kankar and calcorus. So they are non as bhangar. 5: Lower part of Northern plain flooded almost every year, new alluvial is deposited and intensive agriculture is practised. This is known as khadar. 6:it covers an area of 7 lakh square. km.
