Given : x = {tex}3+\sqrt 2{/tex}

Then {tex}{1\over x} = {1\over 3+\sqrt 2}{/tex}= {tex}{1\over 3+ \sqrt 2}\times {3-\sqrt 2 \over 3-\sqrt 2 }{/tex}= {tex}3-\sqrt 2 \over 7{/tex}

To find : {tex}x +{1\over x}{/tex}

= {tex}3+\sqrt 2+{3-\sqrt 2 \over 7}{/tex}

{tex}={ 21+7\sqrt 2+ 3-\sqrt 2 \over 7}{/tex}

{tex}= {24-6\sqrt 2\over 7}{/tex}
