There is the involvement of 2 parents in sexual fertilisation.so, an offspring receives 2 gene for a particular trait from each parent and that's why, sexually reproducing offsprings possess a pair of 2 genes for a trait.
Genotype refers to the genetic construction of an organism. That is, what type of genes are present in the pair of 2 genes for a trait. For ex ;If there is a gene for tallness and a gene for dwarfness in the pair of genes for a character , then, genotype of concerned offspring is Tt.
