(x,y) is equidistant from (7,1) and (3,5) It means distance between (x,y) ,(7,1) and (x,y) ,(3,5) is same Use distance formula √(x2-x1)^2+ (y2-y1) ^2 √(7-x)^2 + (1-y)2 = √(3-x)^2+ (5-y)^2 Squaring both sides (7-x)^2 + (1-y)^2 = (3-x)^2+ (5-y) ^2 49+x^2-14x + 1+ y^2- 2y = 9+x^2-6x + 25+y^2-10y 49-14x+1-2y = 9-6x+25-10y 50-2y+10y = 34-6x+14x 50+8y = 34+8x 50-34= 8x-8y 16 = 8(x-y) 16/8= x-y 2= x-y
