When the glvnmtr is shunted, the effective resistance becomes too small In the parallel circuit,hence converting it into an ammeter.due to a small effective resistance, the current entering the coil is large...... Range of ammeter increases.

Growth of current in an inductor at any instant of time t is given by
I = I0(1 – e  -Rt / L)
where, I0 = maximum current, L = self inductance of the inductor and R = resistance of the circuit.
Here R / L = τ, is called time constant of a L – R circuit.
