A parallel plate capacitor is a capacitor with 2 large plane parallel conducting plates separated by a small distance.

  • Electric field inside the capacitor has a direction from positive to negative plate.
  • For very small‘d’, the electric field is considered as uniform. For large‘d’, the electric field is non-uniform and it bends around the corners of the plate which is called fringing of the field.

Hysterisis means 'lagging behind'. The phenomenon of lagging of intensity of magnetization (M) behind magnetic intensity (H) when a specimen of magnetic material is subjected to a cycle of magnetization is called hysterisis. Coercive force is a measure of the ability of a ferromagnetic material to withstand an external magnetic field without becoming demagnetized.

The curie law states that in a paramagnetic material, the material’s magnetization is directly proportional to an applied magnetic field. But the case is not the same when the material is heated. When it is heated, the relation is reversed i.e. the magnetization becomes inversely proportional to temperature.

Mathematically, it is written as

M = C x (B / T), where

M is the magnetization

B is the magnetic field, measured in teslas

T is absolute temperature, measured in kelvins

C is a material-specific Curie constant

Permeability, also called magnetic permeability, is a constant of proportionality that exists between magnetic induction and magnetic field intensity. This constant is equal to approximately 1.257 x 10-6 henry per meter (H/m) in free space (a vacuum). In other materials it can be much different, often substantially greater than the free-space value, which is symbolized µo.

Zener Diode is a special purpose semiconductor diode. It operates under reverse bias in the breakdown region. Used as a voltage regulator. (For circuit diagram, refer book) As a voltage regulator: If Vi increases or decreases, current through Rs increases or decreases. But, Vz is constant.

The common emitter transistor amlplifier is the only configuration that gives a phase inversion of 180°, between the input and output signals. Because of this the collector to emitter voltage decreases. Similarly decrease in base current/voltage and in collector current will increase the collector to emitter voltage.
