Rolle's theorem states that if a function f is continuous on the closed interval [a, b] and differentiable on the open interval (a, b) such that f(a) = f(b), then f′(x) = 0 for some x with a ≤ x ≤ b.

All 3 conditions of Rolle's theorem are necessary for the theorem to be true:

  • f(x) is continuous on the closed interval [a,b];
  • f(x) is differentiable on the open interval (a,b);
  • f(a)=f(b).
  • The conclusion of Rolle’s theorem is that if the curve is continuous between two points x = a and x = b, a tangent can be drawn at each and every point between x = a and x = b and functional values at x =a and x = b are equal, then there must be atleast one point between the two points x = a and x = b at which the tangent to the curve is parallel to the x-axis.

Just as definite integrals can be used to find the area under a curve, they can also be used to find the area between two curves. To find the area between two curves defined by functions, integrate the difference of the functions. ... In this section, we use definite integrals to find volumes of three-dimensional solids.

In calculus, integration by substitution, also known as u-substitution or change of variables, is a method for evaluating integrals. Direct application of the fundamental theorem of calculus to find an antiderivative can be quite difficult, and integration by substitution can help simplify that task.

A function f:A→B is onto if and only if there exists its right inverse, that is, a function g:B→A such that f∘g=idB, where idB(x)=x for all x∈B.

Answer~~ : The Mean Value Theorem is one of the most essential theoretical tools in Calculus. It also says that if f(x) is definite and continuous on the interval [a,b] and differentiable on (a,b), in that case there is at least one number c in the interval (a,b) (that is a < c < b) such that. Important Conclusions ⇒ If f'(x) = 0 for all x in an interval (a,b), then f(x) is constant in the interval (a,b) ⇒ If f'(x) = g'(x) for all x in an interval (a,b), then g(x) = f(x) + c. Regards. ??

Solution~~ f : N → N given by f (x) = x² We can see that for x, y ϵ N, f(x) = f(y) ⇒ x² = y² ⇒ x = y ⇒ f is injective. Now, let 2 ϵ N. But, we can see that there does not exists any x in N such that f(x) = x² = 2, therefore,  f is not surjective. Therefore, function f is injective but not surjective. Regards. ??
