Optimism is a determination to overcome difficulties. It raises one‟s spirits and helps one overcome stress and difficulty with ease. The story displays courage and optimism shown by everyone at the time of difficult situation. Survival happens only because of the optimistic struggle that the family carries on with the inclination to look at the bright side in the situation.
The level of perseverance in the author rises when Jonathan says, “We‟re not afraid of dying if we can all be together. Besides, the caricatures of him and Mary, drawn by Sue, helps his determination and optimism to grow many folds. The positive outlook of the children infuses positively in the narrator. He rigorously calculates their position and finally asks Larry to steer a course of 185 degrees. Though he lost all hopes by then, he does not show it and optimistically told Larry that they would spot the island by about 5 p.m. Fortunately, their struggle and optimism pays off and they manage to find Ile Amsterdam by the evening.

Life is never about being happy all the time. We are constantly tested and how we tackle every problem and rise through it is the ultimate lesson. Such hazardous situations teach us how we should react towards them. We must never lose hope and keep trying as it will lead to success. In certain situations, one must keep calm and think logically. No matter how bad the situation is, there is always a way to get out of it. The significance of being extra cautious and to make sure that the situation doesn’t get worse is required at such moments.

The changing circumstances did have a bearing on the relationship between the author and his grandmother. The author and his grandmother lived as intimate friends in the village. I turning point came in the relationship when they came to the city to live with the author's parents. The author joined an English school in the city. She remain confined to home as here she could not accompany him to the school. In the new English school she could not help him in studies. She did not like the kind of education being given to the author at the English school. The grandmother became Disturbed as there was no teaching about God and scriptures in the new school. She reconciled herself with spinning and taking to feed The Sparrows. When the narrator grew up, he went up to University. He was given his own room. The common link of friendship between the author and his grandmother was snapped. His grandmother accepted her seclusion with resignation. No, their feelings for each other did not change though distances grew between them. .. I hope it would help u??

Yes the author's grandmother was a person strong in character the instances to prove this are given below : -the author's grandmother was a person strong in character. She was a picture of contentment but she had firm convictions about certain things in her life -she had her own thoughts about the landing at school she considered the teaching of scriptures to be more fruitful than science in music. -in her phase of loneliness and seclusion, she took to wheel-spinning and feeding sparrows she appeared composed and did not display any emotion when the author decided to go abroad for studies. -Inoring everyone who tried to stop her, she sang for several hours celebrating the homecoming of her grandson. - during the last few hours of Life, ignoring the protests of her family members, she stopped talking to everyone and took to reciting prayers and telling heart beads. .. I hope it would help u?

Musicophile ❤️? 5 years, 9 months ago

This is because in the photo, the age of the girl standing in the middle is around 12 years. That girl was no other than the mother of the poet, who was eldest of all. Years later, when the poet sees the photo again, she discovers that it has been twelve years since her mother died i.e. same number of years as the eldest girl's age in the snapshot.

The three reasons which show that the grandmother was disturbed when he started going the city school are:- Firstly, the city school was far for the house and a motor bus used to come to pick him and drop him. Secondly, when she came to know that there were lessons for teaching music she became more disturbed. Thirdly, she was disturbed because there were no lessons for teaching scriptures and praying God.

When they shifted to city ,thier relationship started to fade and they became apart from each other .when kushwant was asked about what he was taught in school he would tell about some english words arhimede's principals and the world being round etc...this made grandma upset .she was worried that thier was no teaching about the scriprures and god. And when on day kushwant had announced that they were being given music lessons grandma was completely distressed .(bcoz she thinks that misic has lewd association and it was meant for the beggars and prostitutes ) she was silent and rarely talked to kushwant after that .her dissaproval and desdain was reflected in her silence..... that's it

The grandmother had love and compassion even for animals. In the village she fed the street dogs. In the city she took to feeding the sparrows. She would sit in the verandah. She would break the bread into small bits. She used to throw the crumbs to the sparrows. Hundreds of sparrows would gather around her. Some of them perched on her legs and shoulders. She never shoo’d them away. It was the happiest half-hour of the afternoon for her.
