The Maharaja of Pratibandapuram had many titles but was popularly known as the ''Tiger King''. He was portrayed as an autocrat, brave, resolute, determined, courageous and a firm ruler of his state. He was brought up by an English governess. He was tutored in English by an Englishman. When he grew to twenty, he took the reign in his hands. The Maharaja knew how to make his minions do the work for him. No one in the kingdom had the courage to raise his voice against the king.

When he was born, the astrologers had predicted his death by a tiger. His callousness came through his indiscriminate killing of tigers and almost bringing the species to become extinct, just to prove the prophecy wrong. His irrational behavior was portrayed when he announced that he would attend to the affairs of his people and state, only after killing a hundred tigers. He wanted to prove the prophecy wrong that his death was bound to come because of a tiger. He was determined to fulfill his pledge. So he issued a proclamation that no one will kill the tiger except him. The lawbreakers would be taken to task and their properties would be confiscated. Being a man of firm determination and self-respect, he denied permission to the British officer to hunt the tiger too. But, the officer felt offended as he was not even allowed to kill or even, to take a photograph with a dead tiger. To save himself and his kingdom, the king, with the advice of his Dewan, sent around fifty exclusive diamond rings for the officer's wife. He did so to impress them but had to pay a hefty amount because the British officer's wife kept all the rings and sent only a thank you note for the king. It is ironical that the king met his fate by a wooden tiger only and thus the hundredth tiger took revenge upon him.

Garbage is appropriately referred as gold to the rag pickers of Seemapuri because they can sell it to earn money to buy food. These bangle makers rely on garbage only for their basic requirements. Many of the times they are able to find coins or notes which are negligently thrown by rich people in garbage.

Repetition, alliteration, personification and antithesis are the poetic devices used in the poem "Keeping Quiet" written by Pablo Neruda.

 Dr. Sadao Hoki was a true Japanese like his father. He was a brave boy who obeyed and respected his father and loved Japanese culture, tradition and people. He was intelligent and hardworking and studied surgery and medicine in America for eight years. He married a Japanese girl, Hana, whom he had met in America. But he waited for his father’s approval and their marriage was arranged in the old Japanese way after they had returned home in Japan. They had two children. He still loved his wife as warmly as ever.
Dr. Sadao was an eminent surgeon as well as a scientist. The old General had full faith in him. He was not sent abroad with the troops because the old General might need an operation. Dr. Sadao was called even at odd hours from the palace. Dr. Sadao was a real doctor. He would not let a man die if he could help him. That is why he cured even an “enemy” of bullet wound and did not hand him over to the police. He faced a great risk to his position and life by sheltering the man. Since Dr. Sadao could not kill the man himself, he sought the help of the old General to get rid of him. When that plan failed, he let the prisoner escape in order to calm down the fears of his wife and let the household run properly. It may be a blemish from a narrow patriotic angle but a sensitive soul can’t take back what he has given.

He gives the prisoner his boat and helps him to escape safely thus honoring both the values that he was a patriotic Japanese as well as a dedicated surgeon.
