1) All matter is made of atoms. Atoms are indivisible and indestructible.

2) All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties.

3) Compounds are formed by a combination of two or more different kinds of atoms.

Because as reaction proceeds the concentration of reactant decreases and consentraion of product increases so for decreasing amount we use negative sign

Suresh Krishna 8 years, 2 months ago

In a reaction the concentration of the reactants decreases and give rise to increase in concentration of the products.Thus the negative sign is used to indicate the reduce in concentration of the reactants.

Adsorption is always exothermic. This statement can be explained in two ways. (i)Adsorption leads to a decrease in the residual forces on the surface of the adsorbent. This causes a decrease in the surface energy of the adsorbent. Therefore, adsorption is always exothermic. (ii)ΔH of adsorption is always negative. When a gas is adsorbed on a solid surface, its movement is restricted leading to a decrease in the entropy of the gas i.e., ΔS is negative. Now for a process to be spontaneous, ΔG should be negative. ΔG= ΔH-TΔS Since ΔSis negative, ΔH has to be negative to make ΔG negative. Hence, adsorption is always exothermic

The product of magnitude of either of charge with distance between between the two charges. Doople moment= q×2L

Varun Banda 8 years, 2 months ago

A dipole moment is a measurement of the separation of two opposite electrical charges .Dipole moments are a  vector quantity. The magnitude is equal to the charge multiplied by the distance between the charges and the direction is from negative charge to positive charge:

μ = q · r

As neither Zn nor Zn2+ ion show this condition so they are not transition elements

Neha Garg 8 years, 2 months ago

Elements having (n-1)d subshell incompletely filled are transition elements

Varun Banda 8 years, 2 months ago

The transition metals are compounds that form at least 1 stable ion where the compound has an incomplete d subshell. Therefore, Scandium is not a transition metal, because it forms only Sc3+ ions with n d-electrons, and Zn is not a transition metal because it forms only Zn2+ ions with all the 3d electrons present.
