Refer to NCERT class 12 Chemistry vol 1, Ch- Coordination Compounds, under Colour of Coordination Compounds section, an eg. has been cited that when (en) is added successively in [Ni(H2O)6]^2+, the colour changes from green to pale blue to violet...However I want to know that en being a strong field ligand , the octahedral splitting energy will be greater than pairing energy and therefore the absorbed wavelength must be shorter for larger energy gap and consequently emitted wavelength should be higher. With the increase in no. of (en), the emitted wavelength must therefore shift towards the red end of the visible spectrum, however the reverse is happening. Can anyone explain why? It's urgent.....Plz let me know soon.....
