1.On the basis of resonance:- =} If we draw the resonating structures of haloarenes , aryl halides gets partial double bond in b/w C=X which require large amount of energy to break whereas in alkyl halides , no resonance takes place and C-X having single bond character i.e., aryl halides are less reactive 2.On the basis of hybridisation:- =} In aryl halides , carbon is SP^2 hybridised. So, bond length becomes shorter , bond strength increases and its reactivity deacreases.Whereas haloalkanes are sp3 hybridised so less bond strength and high reactivity.

there is a very small energy difference in between (n-1)d and ns-orbitals. As a result ,electrons of (n-1)d orbitals as well as ns-orbitals take part in bond formation.
