Its benzoic acid not benzaldehyde....

Ayush Parija 7 years, 2 months ago

Another method can be convert toluene to benzaldehyde by etard reaction and then canizzaro reaction reaction and then hydrolysis

G K 7 years, 2 months ago

Toluene - - - - KMno4, KOH, heat - - - - > Benzene per COOK - - -(H3O+) - - - >Benzoic acid.

Since friedel craft catalyst is a Lewis acid (e- deficient) the catalyst (anhyd AlCl3 ) reacts with e- rich COOH group of benzoic acid and gets bonded....... I think ? Friedel Craft r*n with Benzoic acid fails because the Benzene ring is deactivated......

G K 7 years, 2 months ago

Aniline does not undergo Friedel craft's reactions....... because the reagent AlCl3 (the Lewis acid which is used as a catalyst in friedel crafts reaction), being electron deficient acts as a Lewis base. and attacks on the lone pair of nitrogen present in aniline to form an insoluble complex which precipitates out and the reaction does not proceed........

I would like to contradict this. Actually, it is due to repulsions caused by Cl groups attached to P atom in PCl5 among each other, though stable in its TBP geometry. In contrast, NH3 is more stable with no such steric hindrance in its sp3 hybridisation with trigonal pyramidal shape.

Sahood Khan 7 years, 2 months ago

Bcz NH3 Ki is highly electronegative than PCl5
