In Haber's process, iron (Fe) is used as catalyst. If CO is present, it acts as a catalytic poison. Thus, it is necessary to remove carbon monoxide by some suitable method.

Methods of Preparation of Haloalkanes Alkyl halides are formed by the substitution of a halogen atom for a hydrogen atom. When methane reacts with chlorine gas, ultraviolet light can act as a catalyst for the reaction. The reaction produces chloromethane and hydrogen chloride.

Electric field lines generally show the properties to account for nature of electric fields. Some general properties of these lines are as follows:

  • Electric field lines start from a positive charge and end at a negative charge, in case of a single charge, electric field lines end at infinity
  • In a charge-free region, electric field lines are continuous and smooth
  • Two electric field lines never intersect or cross each other, as if they do, there will be two vectors depicting two directions of the same electric field, which is not possible
  • These lines never form a closed loop. This is because an electric field is conservative in nature and hence the lines don’t form a closed loop.

The nitrogen atom is very small in size,therfore the bond lenght is also quite small and as a result the bond dissociation energy is quite high. This reason leads N2 to be very less reactive at room temperature

Yogita Ingle 6 years, 5 months ago

Dinitrogen (N2) IS formed by sharing three electron pairs between two nitrogen atoms.The two nitrogen atoms are joined by triple bond(N ≡ N). The nitrogen atom is very small in size ,therefore the bond length is also quite small(109.8 pm) & as a result the bond dissociation energy is quite high(946Kj / mol).This reason leads N2 to be very less reactive at room temperature.

We know that,
{tex}log(\frac{N}{N_\circ})=\frac{t}{t_\frac{1}{2}}\times log(\frac{1}{2}){/tex}
N = amount left after decay = 100 - 80 = 20
No= initial amount = 100
t = time for 80% completion reaction
half life = 25 minutes
Substitute all values in formula, we get
{tex}log(\frac{20}{100})=\frac{t}{25}\times log(\frac{1}{2})\\t=58 \ min.{/tex}

In zno, zn2+ ions occupy the interstitial sites and electrons are trapped in the interstitial sites for the neutralization. Crystals that shows such type of defects are generally colored. Zinc oxide is White in color but on heating it turns into yellow because on heating is losses oxygen reversibly at high temperature.

Yogita Ingle 6 years, 5 months ago

ZnO shown non stoichiometric defect under metal excess defect. When zinc oxide is heated it become yellow because on heating it loses oxygen because of which f-centers are generated which give yellow colour.

Lanthanoids and Actinoids are f block elements of the periodic table. They are metals but are very soft. They have different chemical properties. The main difference between actinides and lanthanides is that actinides can form complexes easily whereas lanthanides do not form complexes easily.
