Reimer-Tiemann reaction: The Reimer Tiemann reaction is a chemical reaction used for the ortho-formylation of phenols, with the simplest example being the conversion of phenol to salicylaldehyde.

When phenol is treated at 340K with chloroform and alkali, it forms salicylaldehyde.

Molality depends on mass while molarity depends on volume.. Since mass doent change with temp while volume does .:. Molality is preferred

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 11 months ago

Molarity is no. moles of solute in 1 litre of solution.while Molality is no. of moles in 1kg of solvent
Volume of solution change when temperature changes but weight remain same it not change so molality is preferred over molarity.

The single N-N bond is weaker than the single P-P bond due to high inter electronic repulsion of the non-bonding electrons in N2 owing to small bond length. Therefore, the catination property is weaker in nitrogen as compared to phosphorus.

The conductivity of a solution is directly proportional to number of ions present in a unit volume of the solution because current is carried forward by the ions. With dilution number of ions in unit volume decreases so that conductivity also decreases. Hence with dilution conductivity decreases.

Due to more sterric hinderance in ketones, they are less reactive than aldehydes in nuc. addi. rxn..... Hope it may help you..

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 11 months ago

The reactivity of aldehyde and ketones towards nucleophilic addition is because of the polar nature of Carbonyl group where carbon contains slightly positive charge and oxygen contains slightly negative charge.

In nucleophilic addition reaction the nucleophile attacks at electropositive carbon. Thus more electropositive the carbon, more easily it is attacked by nucleophile. Ketone contains an extra alkyl group, compared to aldehyde, which releases electron towards carbonyl carbon making it less electropositive. Therefore, aldehyde undergo a nucleophilic addition reaction more easily than ketones.

Friedal craft reaction involves the attack by an electrophile to the substituted benzene ring.
Benzoic acid does not undergo Friedel Crafts reaction because the carboxyl group is strongly deactivating and the catalyst anhydrous aluminium chloride used in the reaction acts as Lewis acid and gets bonded to carboxyl group.

There are several ways of classification of polymers based on some special considerations.

The following are some of the common classifications of polymers:

  1. Source
  2. Structure
  3. Mode of polymerization
  4. Molecular Force

  Source

  • Under this type of classification, there are three sub categories.
    1. Natural polymers
      1. These polymers are found in plants and animals. Examples are proteins, cellulose, starch, some resins and rubber.
  1. Semi-synthetic polymers
  2. b) Cellulose derivatives as cellulose acetate (rayon) and cellulose nitrate, etc. are the some examples.
    1. Synthetic Polymers
  • A variety of synthetic polymers as plastic (polythene), synthetic fibres. Examples: - (nylon 6, 6) and synthetic rubbers (Buna - S) are polymers extensively used in daily life as well as in industry.
  1. Addition polymers: -
  • The addition polymers are formed by the repeated addition of monomer molecules possessing double or triple bonds.
    • For example: - The formation of polythene from Ethene and polypropene from propene.
  • However, the addition polymers formed by the polymerisation of a single monomeric species are known as homopolymers.
    • For example: - polythene.
