Ladybirds consume aphids. Dragonflies consume mosquitoes. Both aphids and mosquitoes are pests. Hence these plants serve as biocontrol agents by protecting the plants from pests.

Post parturation during intense lactation, there is a suppression of gonadotropins which inhibits ovulation and thus the women lacks the menstrual cycle during this period. Thus, coitus during this time will not lead to conception. Thus, this is a natural method of contraception called LACTATION AMENORRHEA.

The bacterial growth curve represents the number of live cells in a bacterial population over a period of time. There are four distinct phases of the growth curve: lag, exponential (log), stationary, and death. The initial phase is the lag phase where bacteria are metabolically active but not dividing. There are three phases of growth – meristematic, elongation and maturation. We can understand this better by looking at a seed. We already know that the tips of roots and shoots exhibit continuous growth and hence are meristematic. The cells in this region are rich in protoplasm and have large nuclei.
