Physical education is a course taught in school that focuses on developing physical fitness and the ability to perform and enjoy day-to-day physical activities with ease.Kids, as well as adults, benefit from regular exercise. Health benefits from regular exercise include: stronger muscles and bones, increased coordination and energy, and decreased risk of developing chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. For most kids, exercise means being physically active during play, recess, and physical education class, also known as P.E. Physical education contributes to each child’s total growth and development. Kids also develop skills necessary to participate in a wide range of activities, such as soccer, basketball, or swimming. Regular physical education classes prepare kids to be physically and mentally active, fit, and healthy into adulthood. An effective physical education program should include engaging lessons, trained P.E. teachers, adequate instructional periods, and student evaluation.

Bone content is the percentage of bone mineral as compared to total body weight. The average bone content for adults is 3-5%. In terms of tissue composition, bone, adipose tissue, and muscle make up 75% of body weight. In a healthy diet, about 12 to 20 percent of your total daily calories should come from protein. Your body needs protein for growth, maintenance, and energy. The ideal percentage for adult women will fluctuate between 45 and 60%, while the ideal percentage for adult men will be between 50 and 65% of the total body. For the real athletic body types it is even recommended to have 5% more body water than the average adult range.

Type IIa is the first type of fast twitch muscle. (Keep in mind that Type I muscles are slow twitch. More on that later). They're known as oxidative-glycolytic muscles because they can use oxygen and glucose for energy. Soleus muscle contract quickly, but get tired fast, as they consume lots of energy. Most of your muscles are made up of a mixture of both slow and fast twitch muscle fibres.

Coaches are responsible for training athletes, scheduling practices and managing equipment. Most coaches work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends. Physical education teachers and coaches can combine their interest in being active in their daily lives with a career helping others to do the same. Teaching is focused on imparting knowledge and learning, where the teacher is in charge of the interaction. It has little to do with the student as an individual. Coaching is centred around the student. Coaches focus on the development and guidance of students.

Adaptive sports often run parallel to typical sport activities. However, they allow modifications necessary for people with disabilities to participate and many sports use a classification system that puts athletes with physical challenges on an even playing field with each other. The International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (IFAPA) is a cross-disciplinary professional organisation of individuals, institutions, and agencies supporting and promoting adapted physical activity, disability sport, and all aspects of sport, movement, and exercise science for individuals with disabilities.
