Magnesium is very mobile hence the deficiency symptoms first appear in older leaves. The most common symptom is yellowing of leaf margins and then lamina, commonly referred as bronzing or copper leaf. The yellowing starts from the base along the mid ribs of mature leaves. Magnesium is needed to give leaves their green colour, so when there's a deficiency, yellow breaks through between the veins and around the leaf edges instead. Other colours, such as purple, brown or red, might also appear.
