The leaves of C4 plants have specialized structural and biochemical features that differ from those of C3 plants. The leaves of C4 plants are composed of two types of photosynthetic cells: the mesophyll cells and the Kranz or bundle sheath cells.
The anatomy wherein there are large, bundle sheath cells around the vascular bundles of C4 pathway plants.
The bundle sheath cells form several cells around the vascular bundles.
They have a large number of chloroplasts.
They have thick walls that are impervious to gaseous exchange.
They do not have intercellular spaces.
