Multipurpose River Valley projects are those which severe many objectives at the same time. Multipurpose River Valley Projects are referred as the 'temples of modern India' in following ways -
(1) It induces the floods and earthquakes.
(2) It promotes inland irrigation, fishing and afforestation.
(3) It provides irrigation facilities and navigation.
(4) It generates hydro - electricity.
(5) Series of dams are constructed across the river for storing water.
(6) It have been developed all over the world to utilize water.

India is the largest producer of raw jute and jute goods in the world. It is the second largest exporter of jute; after Bangladesh. Most of the 70 jute mills in India are located in West Bengal; mainly along the bank of Hooghly. The jute industry is in a narrow belt which is 98 km long and 3 km wide. The jute industry directly supports 2.61 lakh workers. It also supports 40 lakh small and marginal farmers who are engaged in cultivation of jute and mesta. Jute industry is facing challenge from synthetic fibre and also from other competitors like Bangladesh, Brazil, Philippines, Egypt and Thailand.

Barter system:
* In a barter sysem, people give goods in exchange of goods.
* In a barter system, the parties have to agree to exchange each other goods.
*In a barter system, exchange cannot take place if the parties do not agree to buy each others goods.
*Therefore, double coincidence of wants is a must in a barter system.
Money system:
* In an economy that uses money, things are exchanged , using money as a medium.
* A man who is in possession of money can easily exchange it for anything that he wants.
*People prefer to receive payments in money and then exchange it for aything that they may want.
* The use of money as a medium of exchange the need for double coincidence of wants.
