In his famous book Hind Swaraj (1909) Mahatma Gandhi declared that British rule was established in India with the cooperation of Indians, and had survived only because of this cooperation. If Indians refused to cooperate, British rule in India would collapse within a year, and swaraj would come. Gandhiji believed that if Indians begin to refuse to cooperate, the British rulers will have no other way than to leave India.

Some of the proposals of non-cooperation movement:

  • Surrender the titles which were awarded by the British government.
  • Boycott civil services, army, police, courts, legislative councils and schools.
  • Boycott foreign goods.
  • Launch full civil disobedience campaign, if the government persisted with repressive measures.

In politics, there is competition between political parties. If these political parties use this competition in support of some social divisions, it can lead to political divisions. This can lead to conflicts, violence or even disintegration of a country.

One example is of Northern Ireland where religious divisions led to ethno-political conflict. Two major sects of Christianity: 53% Protestants and 44% Catholics dominate the country. The Catholics were in favour of the Northern Ireland to join the Republic of Ireland and the Protestants wanted to remain with UK. This led to years of violence killing thousands of people. It was in 1998 that peace was established when the UK government and the Nationalists signed a peace treaty.

Things available in our environment become resources only when human beings find a way to transform them into a useful form. For a thing to become a resource: Resources can be classified based on their origin, exhaustibility, ownership and status of development. Resources can be living or non-living. Living things, like forests, land and sea animals, insects and human beings, are called biotic resources. Resources in the form of non-living things, like rocks, minerals and metals, are called abiotic resources. Resources can also be classified based on whether they can be regenerated or lost forever once used. Resources like solar and wind energy, reversible chemical reactions and physical power, which can be regenerated once used, are called renewable resources. MAY THIS HELP U MY FRND!!!❤❤?

(i) By 1890, a global agricultural economy had taken shape. It was accompanied by complex changes in labour movement patterns, capital flows, ecologies and technology.
(ii) Food no longer came from a nearby village or town, but from thousands of miles away. Forests were cleared by agricultural labourers of other countries and the land tilled and cultivated by them.
(iii) Railways were specially built to carry the migrant labourers for this purpose or ships to carry labour again could be manned by low paid workers of Europe, Asia, Africa and the Caribbeans.
(iv) As a result of this economy, self-sufficiency of food production almost ended.
(v) As urban centres expanded and grew the demand for agricultural products increased pushing up food grain prices. Food now could be imported from other countries in large cargo ships.
