Huynh Fhu So was a Buddhist religious scholar who was a native of the Mekong river delta.
His role in arousing the anti-imperialist sentiments :
(i) Founder of Hoa Hao Movement: Huynh Phu was the founder of the Hoa Hao Movement which drew on religious ideas popular in the anti-French uprisings of the nineteenth century.
(ii) Social reformer : He was a great social reformer as he opposed the sale of child brides, gambling, and the use of alcohol and opium.
(iii) Struggle against foreign rule: Huynh Phu So faced a great deal of trouble when he began to spread his ideas of religion, because most of his followers were Vietnamese nationalists.
The colonial government declared him mad, called him the Mad Bonze, and put him in a mental asylum. The French authorities exiled him to Laos, and sent many of his followers to concentration camps.

The Early Entrepreneurs
- The British in India began exporting opium to China and took tea from China to England. Many Indians participated in this trade by providing finance, procuring supplies and shipping consignments.
- In Bengal, Dwarkanath Tagore made his fortune in the China trade and established six joint-stock companies in the 1830s and 1840s.
- In Bombay, Dinshaw Petit and Jamsetjee Nusserwanjee Tata built huge industrial empires in India. They accumulated their initial wealth partly from exports to China and partly from raw cotton shipments to England.
- Merchants from Madras traded with Burma, Middle East and East Africa.
- Other trading activities included carrying goods from one place to another, banking, transferring funds between cities and financing traders.
However, Indian traders were barred from trading with Europe in manufactured goods and had to export raw materials and food grains required by the British. They were also gradually edged out of the shipping business

Democracy means as defined by Abraham Lincoln is" of the people, by the people and for the people". It has succeeded in maintaining the dignity & freedom of citizens by-
1. It allows every citizen with basic Fundamental rights- Right to equality, Right to freedom, Right against Exploitation, Right to freedom of Religion, Cultural & Educational Right and Right to Constitutional Remedies.
2. In a democratic country, everybody is equal before the law. Therefore, the laws are not different for different people. Everybody enjoys equal status and gets equal opportunities to study, earn a living, and so on.
It is very important to understand that "there can be justice only if there is equality"; and in a democratic country all are treated equal ad with respect.
3. The most important way in which democracy has succeeded in maintaining the dignity & freedom of citizen is that people have right to choose their leaders that is they have "RIGHT TO VOTE". All adults above the age of 18 should and can choose their own leaders.

(i) The Non-Cooperation Movement was launched in 1921 by Gandhiji, but the Civil Disobedience Movement was launched in 1930.

But the Civil Disobedience Movement was withdrawn in 1931, when Gandhi signed ‘Gandhi-Irwin’ pact.
