Power sharing is true spirit of democracy because:

  1. It helps to reduce the possibility of conflict between social groups.
  2. It is a good way to ensure the stability of the political order.
  3. A democratic rule involves sharing power with those affected by its exercise, and who have to live with its effects.
  4. Here, people have a right to be consulted on how they are to be governed. Thus, a legitimate government is one where citizens, through participation, acquire a stake in the system.
  5. These are the moral reasons which emphasise that the very act of power sharing is valuable.

The Process of unification of Germany:

  1. In the 1800s, nationalist feelings were strong in the hearts of the middle-class Germans. They united in 1848 to create a nation-state out of the numerous German states.
  2. By 1848, the popular effort of political associations failed in installing a constitutional monarchy in Germany. 
  3. The failure of Frankfurt Parliament made it clear that German unification had to come through the combined effort of monarchy and army supported by large landowners.
  4. Prussia soon became the leader of German unification movement.
  5. Chief Minister, Otto von Bismarck, was the architect of the process with support from Prussian army and Prussian bureaucracy.
  6. The unification process was completed after Prussia won wars with Austria, Denmark and France over seven years time.
  7. In January 1871, the Prussian king, William I, was proclaimed the German Emperor in a ceremony held at Versailles.
