(i) Type of Government: Sri Lanka continues to be, for all practical purpose, a unitary system where the national government has all the powers. Tamil leaders want Sri Lanka to become a federal system under which the regional governments were given constitutional powers that were no longer dependent on the central ‘government. Belgium shifted from a unitary to a federal form of government.
(ii) Religion and Government : To accommodate people belonging to different ethnic groups Belgium formed a ‘community government’ whereas Sri Lankan government passed a law to protect and promote Buddhism.
(iii) Language and government : In 1956 Sri Lankan government passed an act to recognize Sinhala as the only official language whereas Belgium government “tried to protect and foster all the languages spoken by the people.

Rammohun Roy published Sambad Kaumudi from 1821 to criticize the orthodox views in the Hinduism. The Hindu orthodoxy commissioned the Samachar Chandrika to counter his opinions. In 1822, publication of two Persian newspapers began, viz. Jam – i- Jahan Nama and Shamsul Akhbar. Bombay Samachar; a Gujarati newspaper appeared in the same year.

- Dutch and French speaking ministers are equal in the central government.
- Some of the Powers of the central government have been given to state government.
- The state governments are not subordinate to the central government.
- Brussels has a separate government where both the communities have equal representation.
- There is another government called community government elected by the people belonging to Dutch, French and German.

Formal sources:
1.These sources of credit are registered by the government and have to follow its rules and regulations.
2.RBI supervises the functioning of formal sources of credit.
3.They generally charge lower rates of interest.
4.Their main motive is social welfare.
Example: Banks and cooperatives.
Informal sources:
1.These include those small and scattered units which are largely outside the control of the government.
2.There is no organisation which supervises the credit activities.
3.They charge much higher rates of interest.
4.Their main motive is profit-making.
Example: Moneylenders, traders, employees, relatives and friends, etc.

Collateral is an asset that the borrower owns(such as land, buliding, etc) and uses this as a gaurantee to a lender until the loan is repaid.....if the borrower falis to pay back the money then the lender has the right to sell the asset or collateral to obtain payment.

(i) The responsibility of German unification was taken by Ottovan Bismarck, the chief minister of Prussia.
(ii) Otto von Bismarck was the chief architect of German unification.
(iii) Three wars over seven years- with Austria, Denmark and France, ended in Prussian victory and completed the process of unification.
(iv) In January 1871, the Prussian king, William I, was proclaimed German Emperor in a ceremony held at Versailles.
(v) The nation building process in Germany had demonstrated the dominance of Prussian state power.

1. Different tiers of government govern the same citizens, but each tier has its own jurisdiction in specific matters of legislation, taxation and administration.
2. The jurisdictions of the respective levels or tiers of government are specified in the constitution.
3. The fundamental provisions of the constitution cannot be unilaterally changed by one level of government. Such changes require the consent of both the levels of government.
4. Courts have the power to interpret the constitution and the powers of different levels of government.
5. Sources of revenue for each level of government are clearly specified to ensure its financial autonomy.
6. The federal system thus has dual objectives: to safeguard and promote unity of the country, while at the same time accommodate regional diversity.
