Bombay became the capital city of the Bombay Presidency in 1819 after the defeat of the Marathas by the British.
As the trade in opium and other trade grew, large communities of traders and bankers as well as artisans and shopkeepers came to settle in Bombay. Another important reason for the expansion of Bombay was the establishment of textile mills which also led to a fresh surge in migration.

Not at all regionalism is very bad because regional division occurs in fragment in the society into many regions and that is really incorrect because it leads to a disunity between the people and eventually leading to a division between its people so that is no need for the people to follow regionalism because that's not at all good so a cause it's the most bad choice for democracy to follow which regionalism.

“Social divisions” affect politics in both negative ways and positive ways.

Negative Impact

If we observe social division and politics together at first sight;

(i) Itwouldappearthatthecombinationofpoliticsand social divisions is very dangerous and explosive.

(ii) Democracy involves competition among various political units/parties. Their competition tends to divide the society.

In case political parties start competing in terms of some prevalent social differences it can further lead to social conflict and disintegration of society. For example, Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland.

• In Northern Ireland there has been a violent and bitter ethnopolitical conflict for many years.

• In the same way political competition along religious and ethnic lines lead to the disintegration of Yugoslavia into six independent countries.

Positive Impact

(i) At the same time every expression of social divisions in politics does not lead to such disasters because wherever social divisions exist, they are reflected in politics.

(ii) In democracy it is only natural that political parties

=> would talk about these divisions.

=>make different promises to different communities.

=> look after due representation of various communities.

=> make policies to redress the grievances of the disadvantaged communities.

(iii) Social divisions also affect voting in most countries. People from one community tend to prefer some party more than others.

(iv) In many countries there are parties that focus only on one community, e.g., DMK, AIADMK, BSP in India.

(v) Thus, it would be best if there are no social divisions in any country.

Hence, all this does not lead to disintegration of the country.

Different people could have different as well as conflicting notions of a country because of the following reasons :-

1) People seek things that are most important for them. These things can fulfill their aspirations, desires or needs.

2) Certainly , different persons can have different development goals. For example , landless agricultural labourers may except more days of work and better wages. Prosperous farmers may want a high family income through higher support prices for their crops. People belonging to scheduled castes want higher income, social equality, increase in job opportunities quality education and better health facilities.

3) It is also true that sometimes these goals may be conflicting. For example, industrialists may want more dams to get more electricity. While tribals and farmers may resent this as it may submerge their land and disrupt their lives. They prefer small check dams or tanks to irrigate their land.

Legal constitutional changes can't overcome challenges to democracy by themselves: 1. Reforms in the law or constitution can be a deterrent to malpractices in politics and power but that is not enough. 2. For example, in cricket, LBW law was made to stop batsmen from using wrong ways in batting and saving the wicket. However, how effective the law would depend on the batsmen, the players, and the referee. 3. In politics, the only law cannot ensure fairness and justice. The politicians and the people themselves also have to take efforts in reforming politics.Thank you??
