Conservative regimes did not tolerate criticism and dissent and sought to curb activities that questioned the legitimacy of autocratic government. Most of them imposed censorship laws to control what was said in newspapers, books, plays and songs and reflected the ideas of liberty and freedom. They were auto matic in nature.

Italy is politically fragmentated. Italy was divided into seven parts out of which northern Italy divided between Austrian hadsburg and sardinia piedmont. Central Italy was under papal rule. Southern Italy was ruled by Baurbon kings of Spain. Italian language has no common form. It still had regional and local variations. During 1830s guisspee mazzini wanted to create a unified Italian Republic. So he formed a secret society named young Italy to achieve his goals. He believed that Nation are the natural units of mankind. Guisspee garibaldi headed a revolution against Austria in an alliance with France. In 1861,victor emanuel was considered the king of United Italy and Rome was suggested as the capital.

Gaurav Seth 6 years, 10 months ago

Italy had a long history of political fragmentation. Italians were scattered over several dynasties as well as the multi-national Habsburg Empire. The past revolutionary uprisings, which failed, prompted King Victor Emmanuel II from Sardinia-Piedmont to unify the Italian states through war.

(i) In 1859, Giuseppe Garibaldi headed a revolution against Austria in an alliance with France.

(ii) In 1860, the forces marched into South Italy and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and drove out the Spanish rulers.

Practical Application of Indian Federalism.
Like other federalism, in India also Constitutional provisions are necessary forthe success of federalism but these are not sufficient for its practical application.
If the federal experiment has succeeded in India, it is not merely because of the clearly laid out constitutional provisions.
The real success of federalism in India can be attributed to the nature of democratic politics in our country i.e.,

  1. spirit of freedom
  2. respect for diversity
  3. desire for living together
  4. secular outlook
Major tests or experiments for the success of federalism.
    (i) Linguistic States : Regarding federalism the first and a major test for democratic politics in our country was the creation of linguistic states. In 1947, the boundaries of several old states of India were changed to ensure that people who spoke the same languages lived in the same state.
The formation of linguistic states has made the country more united and also made the administration easier.
(ii) Language Policy : Framing of language policy was another test for Indian federation. Under the language policy Hindi has been identified as the official language. At the same time many safeguards have been provided for other languages.
(iii) Central-State Relations: Restructring the centre- state relations is one more way in which federalism has been strengthened in practice. The period after 1990 saw the beginning of the new era of coalition government and the rise of regional political parties in many states of the country.
All these tests and practical aspects show that in India federal power sharing is more effective today than it was in the early years after the Constitution came into force.

The 'Civilizing Mission' of colonizers meant the spread of western culture, thoughts, education, language, science and logic in the colonies. The French felt, like many Europeans, that imperialist expansion had a noble aspect too. They thought that it was the duty of the superior races to educate and civilize the people of Asia and Africa. Due to this, French established many schools in Vietnam, in which Science, Philosophy and French were taught. But this did not prove to be a successful idea and had adverse effect, as it spread western culture at the cost of local Vietnamese culture which was often laughed at by the colonizers.

Positive effects of globalisation:
The positive impact of globalisation in India has been tremendous. Greater competition among producers resulting from Globalisation is a great advantage to consumers as there is greater choice before them. Consumers now enjoy improved quality and lower prices for several products.
Due to globalisation many MNCs have increased their investments in India. This means thousands of people are getting highly paid jobs and, enjoy much higher standards of living than was possible earlier.
Globalisation has also created new opportunities for Indian companies providing services, particularly in the IT field. Services such as data entry, accounting, and administrative tasks, are now being done cheaply in India and exported to the developed countries. This has generated thousands of jobs.
Negative effects of globalisation:
There has also been a negative impact of globalisation in India. Globalisation has posed major challenges to a large number of small producers.
Globalisation which resulted from liberalisation of Foreign Trade policies allowed the import of electronic goods at a very cheap cost. Local producers of electronic goods were not able to meet with this challenge. MNCs flooded the market with quality products at a cheap price. Local producer were not able to compete with this and were put to hardship as their goods do not have a market.
Another negative factor to globalisation is the lower wages that are given to labourers. In order to compete in the world market, exporters try and cut labour costs and workers are denied their fair share of benefits as manufacturers are always on the look out for cheaper labour .
