The Great Depression began in 1929. India was an exporter of wheat to European countries. When the international prices of wheat crashed because of the Great Depression, prices of wheat in India fell almost by 50%. Peasants and farmers were the worst sufferers. While the prices of the crops declined, the government refused to reduce the revenues. This forced the peasants to borrow money from the moneylenders. At this time in India, the peasants’ indebtedness increased.

Multi-party System: If several parties compete for power and more than two parties have a reasonable chance of coming to power either on their own strength or in alliance with others, we call it a multi-party system.
India adopted multi-party system for the following reasons
(i) Being a vast, and diverse country, the multi-party system was needed to accommodate the vast population.
(ii) The diverse social and geographical features could not be represented with two or three parties.
(iii) The multi-party system in India evolved over a long time, depending on the nature of society, its social, regional division, its history of politics and its system of elections.
(iv) Multi-party system ensures a healthy competition between different parties and prevents dictatorship of a single party. Indian Constitution declares India as a democratic country. Multi-party system fulfils this criteria and provides chance for proper growth of the nation.

India is a country with rich natural resources. She has been endowed with plenty of metallic and non- metallic minerals. However, these minerals are unevenly distributed due to variations in geological structures and various natural processes. For example:
- Most of the coal, metallic and non metallic minerals are found in the Peninsular India.
- Sedimentary rocks on the western and eastern flanks of the peninsula, in Gujarat and Assam have most of the petroleum deposits.
- While Rajasthan has reserves of many non-ferrous minerals, the alluvial plains of north India are almost devoid of economic minerals.

The 'Salt March' acted as an effective tool of resistance against colonialism because it involved a stirring demand against the abolition of tax. Salt was something consumed by the rich and the by the rich and the poor alike. The tax on salt and the government monopoly over its production revealed the most oppressive face of British rule. To peacefully defy the British, Mahatma Gandhi started his famous salt march accompanied by 78 of his trusted volunteers. On 6 April he reached Dandi, and ceremonially violated the law, manufacturing salt by boiling sea water. This also marked the beginning of Civil Disobedience Movement.

Consumers have Right to seek redressal against unfair trade practices and exploitation.
If damage is done to the consumer, he or she has the right to get compensation depending on the degree of damage.
For example,
Ravi had bought a SUV, from a car dealer with 1 year warrenty.
While driving it he found that it had no feature of SUV and its feature are all that of ordinary car.
He filed a case in a district level consumer court in New Delhi as the car dealer agency did not respond to his repeated appeal for compensation.
The court verified his document. The court gave verdict in his favour and awarded full compensation to him and frame charges against the car company for selling false product.

Foreign trade has been integrating markets of different countries, as it allows the producers to cross international boundaries in search of cheap raw materials. The manufactured goods and services can now be sold in various markets of different countries. With many MNCs in the market, the consumer now has a wide range of products coming from different nations to choose from. Foreign trade therefore, interlinks various markets across the countries.
For example, Volkswagen, a German automobile company, is the biggest German automaker and second largest automaker in the world. It came to India in 2007 and had recorded sales of 32,627 vehicles in the year 2010. Volkswagen, by launching various models of cars in India, has broadened choices of people in the automobile sector.
