Narmada Bachao Andolan is a movement initiated by environmentalists, farmers, tribal people and human rights activists against the construction of Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada river in Gujarat. It has become a controversial issue due to the problems in the form of displacement of local people, loss of livelihood, floods, deforestation, etc.

Neutrality
- Neutral' is a broad term for such a country's policies.
- As such, a neutral state must normally pay particular attention to a strictly equal foreign policy it must avoid making anybody an enemy.
- But it also avoid becoming too friendly with any country at the expense of others.
- The downside is that, when attacked, a neutral country normally cannot rely on someone else to stand up for it.
- Austria , Costa Rica , Ireland ,Japan etc are comes under neutrality countries.
Non-alignment movement
- The Non-Aligned Movement is an 'international formal group' with congress and membership register, founded in 1961.
- The Non-Aligned Movement has also positioned itself as an international movement calling for general disarmament and peace, 'regional development', debt reduction, and 'anti-colonialism'.
- The idea of non-alignment was coined during the Cold War as a specific form of neutrality.
- We stop joining any agreements or deals that might otherwise participate in battle on behalf of others to support this strategy.
- African country except South Sudan and Western Sahara is a member of the Non-Aligned Movement.

- Contour ploughing: Ploughing along the contour lines can check the flow of water down the slopes. It is called contour ploughing. It can be practised on the hills.
- Terrace cultivation: Steps can be cut out on the slopes making terraces. It restricts soil erosion. It is practiced in western and central Himalayas.
- Strip cropping: Large fields can be divided into strips. Strips of grass are left to grow between the crops. This breaks up the force of wind. This method is called strip cropping.
- Planting of shelter belts: Planting lines of trees to create shelter also checks the soil erosion. Rows of such trees are called Shelter Belts. These shelter belts have contributed significantly to the stabilisation of sand dunes and in stabilising the desert in western India.

It is the declaration signed by world leaders in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), which took place at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
It aims at achieving global sustainable development. It is an agenda to combat environmental damage, poverty, disease through global co-operation on common interests, mutual needs and shared responsibilities. One major objective of the Agenda 21 is that every local government should draw its own local Agenda 21.

HDI stands for Human Development Index. It may be defined as the process of widening people’s choice as well as raising the level of well-being. The concept of HDI goes beyond income and growth to cover all human choices. It puts the people at the centre stage and covers all aspects of human development with the object of improving the conditions of people from all angles. It is a broader approach to development.
Components of Measuring HDI
- Life Expectancy: It is the average expected length of life of a person at the time of birth.
- Per Capita Income: Mean income of the people is an economic unit. It is calculated by dividing the total national income of a country by population. It is calculated in dollars for all the countries so that it can be compared.
- Gross Enrolment Ratio for Three Levels: It means enrolment ratio for primary schools, secondary schools and higher education beyond secondary level.

Following steps have been taken at the international level to conserve world resources:
1) to Create national park s and wildlife sanctuaries
2) reserve some area s as biodiversity zones
3) Many days of the year are there which are declared to create awareness among the individual s e.g. world water day
4) also there are various restrictions made to control pollution, reduce e-waste,etc
