Secularism means allowing individuals the freedom to live by their religious beliefs and practices. To provide religious freedom, India adopted a strategy of separating the power of religion and the power of the State.

- Before the middle of the nineteenth century, the countries in Europe were in different.
- Various regions in Europe were ruled by different multi-national dynastic empires.
- These were monarchies which enjoyed absolute power over their subjects.
- Various technological and the ensuing social changes helped in developing the ideas of nationalism. The process of creation of nation states began in 1789, with the French Revolution.
- It took about hundred years for the idea to gain concrete shape which resulted in the formation of France as a democratic nation state.
- The trend was followed in other parts of the Europe and led to the establishment of the modern democratic systems in most parts of the world; at the beginning of 20th century.

- India is already on its way to becoming a developed country. However, certain things are still lacking. Although, today the government of India may claim to be an emerging super power but the reality is quite different from what the government of India or the media of India portray to the world.
- India may have progressed on paper and on screen but do we see the progress on the streets of India? Don't we still see people living in poverty. There are millions of people still surviving in India on an income of less than one dollar a day. India can never be considered a developed country unless and until the poverty, hunger and pain of the poor on the streets and those living in the slums is curbed.
- Lately the government of India has come up with several developmental plans and no doubt it has helped boost the economy of the Country in some ways. But the long term impact of these plans do not seem to serve the purpose, or what should be the purpose of any government, that is, prosperity of the common man. Investment is pouring in from within the Country and abroad, but the poor man is getting poorer. The Country may boast of an increase in international trade, an increased export revenue, but it can't boast of meeting the Millennium Development Goal of bringing down the number of poor on its soil!
- In order to be considered a developed Country, India needs to focus on the common man. On the prosperity of the general public and on the living conditions that its residents have to face.

Land resources in India are primarily divided into agricultural land, forest land, land meant for pasture and grazing, land for other non-agricultural use(such as housing, roads and industry) and waste land (rocky, arid and desert areas). In 2002-03, 54 per cent of the total land area was cultivable or fallow, 22.5 per cent was covered by forests and 3.5 per cent was used for grazing. The rest was waste land, with traces of miscellaneous cultivation. Improper use of forest land has degraded the available land area and made conservation of forests difficult. Human activities such as deforestation, mining and quarrying have contributed to the slow growth rate of forests. Thus, land ’ under forest has increased by only about 4 per cent since 1960-61.

A country may have many longitudes in between the country and their is a time gap of 4 minutes between each longitude. For example the time gap between the western point of Gujarat and the eastern most point of Arunachal Pradesh has a time gap of 2 hours. So, their is a lot of confusion in the whole country. Therefore, a standard meridian should be there in each country as it is the central longitude of the whole country so that there is equal time in all the country.
