- In igneous and metamorphic rocks: The smaller occurrences are called veins and the larger occurrences are called lodes. They are usually formed when minerals in liquid/molten and gaseous forms are forced upwards through cavities towards the earth’s surface. Examples: tin, copper, zinc, lead, etc.
- In sedimentary rocks: In these rocks, minerals occur in beds or layers. Coal, iron ore, gypsum, potash salt and sodium salt are the minerals found in sedimentary rocks.
- By decomposition of surface rocks: Decomposition of surface rocks and removal of soluble constituents leaves a residual mass of weathered material which contains ores. Bauxite is formed in this way.
- As alluvial deposits: These minerals are found in sands of valley floors and the base of hills. These deposits are called placer deposits. They generally contain those minerals which are not corroded by water. Examples; gold, silver, tin, platinum, etc.
- In ocean water: Most of the minerals in ocean water are too widely diffused to be of economic importance. But common salt, magnesium and bromine are mainly derived from ocean waters.

- The most dynamic industries in Britain were cotton and metal. Cotton was the leading sector.
- With the expansion of railways in England and its colonies, the demand for iron and steel increased rapidly.
- The new industries could not easily displace traditional industries. Textiles was a dynamic sector, but a large portion of the output was produced outside factories, within domestic units.
- The pace of change in the traditional industries was not set by steam powered cotton or metal industries. Ordinary and small innovations were the basis of growth in many non- mechanised sectors such as food processing, building, pottery, glass work, etc.
- Technological changes occurred slowly. New technology was expensive and merchants and industrialists were cautious about using it. The machines often broke down and repair was costly. They were not as effective as their investors claimed.

We use averages because they are useful for comparing differing quantities of the same category. For example, to compute the per capita income of a country, averages have to be used because there are differences in the incomes of diverse people. However, there are limitations to the use of averages. Even though they are useful for comparison, they may also hide disparities. For example, the infant mortality rate of a country does not differentiate between the male and female infants born in that country. Such an average tells us nothing about whether the number of children dying before the age of one are mostly boys or girls.

Double counting is the problem which occurs while calculating Gross Domestic Product (national income). It mainly occurs while calculating the value of final goods and intermediate goods. Intermediate goods are those goods which are used for the production of final goods. Thus they are components of final products. But there is always the possibility of including an intermediate good or service more than once while calculating GDP, where only the value of final goods is to be included. This leads to the problem of double counting and results in the overestimation of national income.

Solar energy can solve India's energy problem:
1. Being a tropical country, India has a huge potential for solar energy generation.
2. It's especially useful in the rural and remote areas of the country.
3. It will reduce the dependence of rural households on firewood and dung cake so it will indirectly contribute to the environment and manure supply.
