This statement can easily be justified by the following points -
(i) Traders and travellers introduced new crops to the lands they travelled.
(ii) Ready food stuffs in distant parts of the world might share common origins. It is believed that noodles travelled West from China to become spaghetti.
(iii) Arab traders, perhaps took ‘pasta’ to Sicily in Italy.
(iv) Many of our common foods like potatoes, soya, groundnuts, maize, tomatoes, chillies were not known to us. These foods came from American Indians and we became gradually dependent on these.

We need to manage natural resources because of the reasons listed below:
1. A majority of natural resources is limited.
2. Human population is increasing at a tremendous rate.
3. Utilization of natural resources is increasing at an exponential rate.
4. Need to conserve resources for future generations.
5. Equal distribution of resources for equal benefit.
6. Need to reduce the damage caused to the environment because of the over-exploitation and utilization of resources. Waste generated from the utilization of these resources is to be safely disposed.

- Srilankan government adopted majoritarian measure to establish Sinhala Supremacy.in 1956, an Act was passed to recognise Sinhala as the only official language thus diregarding Tamil.
- A new constitution stipulated that the state shall protect and foster Buddhism.
- Srilankan Tamils felt that none of the major political parties by the Buddhist sinhala leaders were sensitive to their language and culture.
- The relations between the Sinhala Nd Tamil communities strained overtime and soon it turned into a civil war.

1) Soil fertility depends on is composition. Sandy soil is not suitable for agriculture as they do not retain water which the plant roots need for survival. The ideal soils contain a mixture of sand and clay.
2) The humus content determines soil fertility. Organic farm yard manures improve the humus content.
