A covalent bonds are those bonds which are formed by sharing of electrons. They are different from ionic bond because ionic bonds is formed by transfer of electrons Three characteristics :- Poor conductor of electricity Have low melting and boiling point The intermolecular forces between the atoms are weak.

covalent compound are the compound that contain covalent bonds in the molecule .A covalent bond is formed by sharing of electrons between the atoms. while a covalent compound contain covalent compound bonds, the ionic compound is made up of ionic bond which is formed by transference of electrons from one atom to the other. Characteristics of covalent compound: (i) these compounds show low melting points and boiling points because the intermolecular force are weak. (ii) such compounds are poor conductor of electricity. (iii) generally insoluble or less soluble in water but soluble in organic solvent.
