Rayleigh scattering is the elastic scattering of light or other electromagnetic radiation by particles much smaller than the wavelength of the light. Elastic scattering means that incident wavelength and scattered wavelength are the same.

Rayleigh scattering is inversely proportional to the fourth power of wavelength, which means that the shorter wavelength of blue light will scatter more than the longer wavelengths of green and red light. This gives the sky a blue appearance.

Reactions in which heat is absorbed called endothermic reactions

Yogita Ingle 6 years, 3 months ago

Endothermic Reaction

The chemical reactions which proceed with the absorption of heat energy are called as endothermic reactions.

Examples:

When nitrogen and oxygen are heated together to a particular temperature of about 3000oC, nitric oxide gas is formed.

N2  +  O2  +  Heat  →   2NO

Calcium carbonate decomposes into carbon dioxide and calcium oxide when heated to a temperature of about 1000oC.

CaCO3  +  Heat  →  CaO  +  CO2

Energy Conservation is of great importance to all of us, since we rely on energy for everything we do. Thoughtless use of energy has resulted in a depletion of available natural resources of energy and also their consumption at a fast rate has caused serious environmental effect like global warming. Energy supplies are limited and if not used wisely, the day would not be far when the available resources of energy would reach the state of exhaution. This state is refered to as 'energy crisis'.

  • If fertilization doesn’t take place, then no zygote is formed. Therefore, endometrium breaks which results in bleeding through ******.
  • Process of bleeding though ****** due to breakage of endometrium is termed as ‘Menstruation’. This bleeding lasts for 2-6 days. This occurs approx. 14 days after ovulation.
  • Since Menstruation occurs every 28 days; this is also referred as Menstrual cycle.
  • Menstrual cycle in a woman continues till 45-55 years of age, post which ovary becomes dormant. No ovulation, no menstruation occurs after this. This is termed as “Menopause”

The process of adding hydrogen to an unsaturated compound is called hydrogenation.
Example: Ethene gives ethane as a product on hydrogenation.
 Conditions for Hydrogenation:
i)  Unsaturated compound i.e., unsaturated hydrocarbon should be present.
ii)  Presence of a catalyst such as finely divided palladium or nickel.
During hydrogenation of vegetable oils, liquid unsaturated fatty acids are converted into solid saturated fatty acids.

Tracheids and vessels are two water conducting hollow tubes present in the vascular tissue called is xylem. Xylem in a plant is responsible for transporting water from the roots to other parts of the plant.

Water enter continuously into the root xylem bye transpiration and the pressure gradient which is formed in the roots of the plant.

Transportation of water from the leaves makes a transpirational pull in there which causes the roots to take out water from the ground in order to fill up the vacancy caused.
