Micelles: A micelle is an aggregate of surfactant molecules dispersed in a liquid colloid. A typical micelle in aqueous solution forms an aggregate with the hydrophilic "head" regions in contact with surrounding solvent, sequestering the hydrophobic single tail regions in the micelle centre.

The Law of Dominance: A dominant trait is a trait whose appearance will always be seen in offspring. In other words, dominance describes the relationship between two alleles. If an individual inherits two different alleles from each of its two parents and the phenotype of only one allele is visible in the offspring, then that allele is said to be dominant. Mendel's law of dominance states that if one parent has two copies of allele A -- the dominant allele -- and the second parent has two copies of allele a-- the recessive allele -- then the offspring will inherit an Aa genotype and display the dominant phenotype.
The Law of Segregation: A parent may have two distinct alleles for a certain gene, each on one copy of a given chromosome. Mendel's second law, the law of segregation, states that these two alleles will be separated from each other during meiosis. Specifically, in the second of the two cell divisions of meiosis the two copies of each chromosome will be separated from each other, causing the two distinct alleles located on those chromosomes to segregate from one another.
The Law of Independent Assortment: Mendel's third law, the law of independent assortment, states that the way an allele pair gets segregated into two daughter cells during the second division of meiosis has no effect on how any other allele pair gets segregated. In other words, the traits inherited through one gene will be inherited independently of the traits inherited through another gene because the genes reside on different chromosomes that are independently assorted into daughter cells during meiosis.

Corrosion of aluminium is useful. Corrosion of Aluminium occurs when the metal is exposed to oxygen, according to the following reaction :
4 Al(s) + 3 O2 (g) → 2 Al2O3(g)
Thus a protective layer of aluminium oxide is formed on the surface of the metal, which renders the metal passive and prevents its further corrosion.

The principle of electric motor:
The electric motor works on the principle of force experienced by a current carrying conductor in a magnetic field.
Two forces of equal magnitude act in opposite direction on the two parallel sides of coil. Since they act along different lines they cause rotational motion.
Construction:
1. A coil of wire wound around an axle is placed between the two poles at the magnets.
2. The two ends of coil abcd are connected to the two terminals of a battery through split ring commutators C1 and C2and brushes B1 and B2.
Working:
1. As the current flows through coil in anticlockwise direction (d c b a), the force is experienced by arms ba and dc.
2. Applying Fleming's left hand rule, ba experiences a force upwards and dc experiences a force downwards.
3. The coil abcd experiences two parallel, equal and oppositely directed forces. The coil rotates in clockwise direction about its axle.
4. Split rings C1 and C2 move along with the coil. After half the rotation of the coil, C1 and C2 get interchanged. C1 is now in touch with Brush B2 and C2 is now in touch with brush B1. (See Fig. (ii) of electric motor.)
5. The direction of the current in the coil continues to be anticlockwise. However on comparing the two fig., the direction of current in arms ab and cd has reversed.
6. ab part of the coil experiences a downward force and cd experiences an upward force. The coil continues its clockwise motion under the effect of these opposite, equal and parallel forces.
7. Thus the electrical energy from the battery has been converted into the continuous mechanical rotational motion of the coil in a motor.

An allele is one of usually two or more forms of genes (generally a group of genes). An allele is an alternative form of a gene that is located at a specific position on a specific chromosome. They determine distinct traits that can be passed on from parents to offspring. The process by which alleles are transmitted was discovered by Gregor Mendel and formulated in what is known as Mendel's law of segregation.
Organisms have two alleles for each trait. When the alleles of a pair are heterozygous, one is dominant and the other is recessive. The dominant allele is expressed and the recessive allele is masked.
Example - The gene for seed shape in pea plants exists in two forms, one form or allele for round seed shape (R) and the other for wrinkled seed shape (r). Round seed shape (R) is dominant and wrinkled seed shape (r) is recessive. So Round is expressed as (RR) or (Rr) and Wrinkled as (rr).

(a) Roasting of sulphide ore:
2Cu2S(s) + 3O2(s) → 2Cu2O(s) + 2SO2(g)
(b) Reduction of copper (I) oxide with copper (I) sulphide:
2Cu2O + Cu2S → 6Cu(s) + SO2(g)
This reaction is known as auto - reduction.
(c) Reaction for electrolytic refining:
At anode : Cu2+(aq) + 2e- → Cu(s)
At cathode : Cu(s) → Cu2+(aq)+ 2e-

Polar covalent bonding is a type of chemical bond where a pair of electrons is unequally shared between two atoms.
Example: Hydrogen chloride (HCl) molecule.
The bonding of hydrogen and chlorine atoms leans more towards Cl atom because Cl is more electronegative in nature than the hydrogen. Thus the shared pair of electrons lies not exactly in between the bond but lean towards chlorine. Due to this Cl atom acquire a slight negative charge, and H atom acquire slight positive charge.

Mendeleev left some gaps in his periodic table
To make sure that elements with similar properties lie in the same group, Mendeleev left some gaps in the periodic table. These gaps were left for subsequent inclusion of the elements not known at that time. The elements were discovered later.

Aluminium foil have properties that help in keeping food packed inside it fresh for a long time as it acts as a barrier against light and oxygen, odours and flavours and moistness and germs, thus avoiding food decay. This also helps in stopping the fats in the food oxidising or turning rancid. It also allows storing without refrigeration.

Fossil fuels are obtained from the buried plants and animals under earth over millions of years. This phenomena happened due to slow changes in earth processes. Thus chances of reoccurring of such processes is very rare and after the present stock is exhausted, we cannot hope to get new stocks unless there are drastic changes in the earth processes. Hence, fossil fuels are classified as non-renewable sources of energy.
