In circuits using metallic wires, electrons constitute the flow of charges. However, electrons were not known at the time when the phenomenon of electricity was first observed. So, electric current was considered to be the flow of positive charges and the direction of flow of positive charges was taken to be the direction of electric current. The conventional direction of electric current is the one in which positive charges move orderly.

Fossils: The remains of dead animals or plants that lived in the remote past are known as fossils. The fossils provide evidence of evolution. For example, a fossil bird called Archaeopteryx looks like a bird but it has many features which are found in reptiles. This is because Archaeopteryx has feathered wings like those of birds but teeth and tail like those of reptiles. Therefore, Archaeopteryx is a connecting link between the reptiles and birds and suggests that birds have evolved from reptiles. Thus, fossils provide evidence that the present plants and animals have originated from the previously existing ones through the process of continuous evolution.

The stomata are primarily meant for absorption of CO2 but the water vapors also escape through stomata and cause transpiration. Thus transpiration is called as a necessary evil because it is an inevitable process. The loss of water can lead to wilting, serious desiccation, and shortage of water. Transpiration helps in the ascent of the sap and the pulling of the water from the roots to the tips. Thus is it considered to be a necessary evil.

According to Joule's law of heating, heat produced in the wire is directly proportional to the square of current, resistance of wire and time for which the current flows through the circuit.
So, the heat produced depends upon:
- Current in the wire
- The resistance of the wire
- Time for which the current flows through the wire

When electric current passes through a high resistance wire, the wire becomes and produces heat. This is called heating effect of current.
This phenomenon occurs because electrical energy is gets transformed into heat energy when current flows through a wire of some resistance say R Ω.

Following are the important function of ethylene:
Growth: Ethylene stimulates horizontal growth and the swelling of the axis. It inhibits the growth in the longitudinal direction.
Gravity : It reduces the sensitivity to gravity. The stems become positively geotropic and the leaves and flowers undergo drooping.
Senescence: It speeds up the senescence of flowers and leaves.
Abscission: Ethylene stimulates the abscission of flowers, leaves, fruits and other parts of the plant. It helps in the formation of hydrolases.
Apical Dominance: It prolongs dormancy of lateral buds and promotes apical dominance.
Breaking Dormancy: It breaks the dormancy of seeds, buds and storage organs.
Ripening of Fruit: Ethylene induces artificial ripening of climacteric fruits such as banana, mango, apple, etc.

Nephrons are the filtration units of kidney. Each kidney has a large no. of nephrons. The process starts with filteration of urine.
Structure and function of nephrons
Cup-shaped structure associated with capillaries is called Bowmans capsule. This collects filtered urine. As this urine flows through the tubular part of nephron, reabsorption of glucose, amino acids, salts and water take place. The amount of water and other substances reabsorbed depends upon how in excess they are present in the body. The urine formed enters into a long tube called ureter through the collecting ducts of kidney. Then urine is collected in urinary bladder.
