Rancidity is a condition in which the substance with oil and fats get oxidized when they are exposed to air. A substance is said to be rancid when there is a change in smell, taste, and colour. An example of rancidity is when a chips pack is exposed to atmospheric air which results in a change in taste and odor. Cooked food left without refrigerator for a long time becomes rancid. Biscuits also become rancid if not kept in an air tight container.

The function of human heart :-
* It is a four chambered structure consisting - the right auricle , the left auricle , right ventricle and left ventricle.
* The Auricles are smaller and placed above the ventricles. Auricles are partitioned by a muscular called septum.
* The right auricle receives the deoxygenated blood from all parts of the body except the lungs. It pumps this blood into the right ventricle. Then , the right ventricle pumps the deoxygenated blood to the lungs. The left auricle receives oxygenated blood from the lungs through pulmonary veins. It pumps this blood into the left ventricle. The left ventricle pumps the oxygenated blood to the distant organs in the body.
* Each auricle communicates with the ventricle of its side by a pore which is guarded by valves. These valves allow the blood to flow from the auricles to the ventricles but check its return to the auricles. Thus , the heart there is a complete separation of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. The heart is enclosed in a double membrane called pericardium. It contains fluid which protects the heart from any shock or mechanical injury.
*The heart collects blood through both the auricles and then distributes it through ventricles. The action of heart includes contraction and relaxation of the auricles and ventricles.
* A contraction of heart is called systole and diastole. The contraction and relaxation occur in an automatic rhythmic fashion. The auricles and ventricles contract alternately. The rhythmic contraction and relaxation of heart is called a heart beat.

Leaf is a flattened and thin structure of higher plants which perform functions like photosynthesis and transpiration.
Leaves have adapted their structure which complement their functions:
Large surface area: The flattened structure increases the surface area of the leaves so that more light falls on the leaves. It increases the rate of the photosynthesis.
Thin structure: The thin structure of the leaves helps in the diffusion or exchange of the gases between atmosphere and cells of the leaves.
Veins: these are structures which help in transportation of water and food.
Stomata: These are tiny pores present in the surface of leaves which help in exchange of gases and water.

On rubbing a glass rod with silk, the electrons from the glass rod get transferred to the silk. The silk now has an excess of electrons and so is negatively-charged. On the other hand, the glass rod is deficient in electrons and hence is positively-charged.
In the above example, the silk undergoes negative electrification.
Hence, silk obtains negative charge and glass retains positive charge.

Plaster of paris is calcium sulphate hemihydrates. Its chemical formula is: CaSO4. ½H2O.
It is prepared by heating gypsum to a temperature of 100°C in a kiln; it loses ¾ of its water of crystallisation and forms plaster of paris.
Uses of Plaster of paris:
(i) It is used as a fire proofing material.
(ii) It is used in hospitals for setting fractured bones in the right position to ensure correct healing.
Gypsum is calcium sulphate dihydrate. When gypsum is heated to a temperature of 100 °C, it loses ¾ of its water of crystallisation and forms plaster of paris.

- Capital investment is very high.
- Conversion efficiency is very low about 3-4% due to small temperature difference in between the surface water and deep water
- Low efficiency of these plants coupled with high capital cost and maintenance cost makes them uneconomical for small plants.

Every electromagnetic radiation tends to move in a straight line unless an external force is applied to it.light travels in a straight line but it bends when it comes in contact with the astronomical objects. also light bends due to atmospheric refraction. but this bending is very small and we need very sharp and highly precise instruments to see this.
