During the whitewashing process, lime water (Ca(OH)2 + H2O) is applied on the walls in order to give a smooth finish. When this Lime Water reacts with the carbon dioxide present in the air, a layer of CaCO3 is obtained over the walls. The presence of this milky white compound causes the wall to look lighter after 2 days.

It concerts 30% of starch present in the food into maltose. 2) Pancreas = secretes pancreatic juice which contains an enzyme known as pancreatic amylase. It converts the remaining 70% starch into maltose. 3) Intestinal Glands = secretes intestinal juice which contains an enzyme called Maltase. It converts the maltose in the food to glucose.

Bases that are highly soluble in water are called ALKALIS. They are usually STRONG and HIGHLY CORROSIVE in nature as they dissociate completely into OH- (aq) ions when in aqueous solutions when compared to other bases. They are usually formed out of highly reactive metal radicals like Na+, K+, Li+, etc. Eg :- NaOH, KOH, etc.

characteristics of an image(formed on plane mirror) are: It is virtual It is erect and of the same size as the object The distance of the object from the plane mirror is the same as the distance of the image from the plane mirror. One of the important characteristics of the image is that it is laterally inverted Properties of the image formed by a convex mirror : The image is always virtual and erect. The image is highly diminished or point sized. It is always formed between F and P. Concave mirrors can produce both real and virtual images; they can be upright (if virtual) or inverted (if real); they can be behind the mirror (if virtual) or in front of the mirror (if real); they can also be enlarged, reduced, or the same size as object.

Transparent Objects : If you are able to see clearly through an object, it is allowing light to pass through it and is transparent. For example :water, clear glass etc. Opaque Objects : If we cannot see through an object at all, it is an opaque object. For example: wooden door, wall etc.

Adithya Dev A 4 years, 4 months ago

Substances which allow light to pass through them are known to be TRANSPARENT. Eg :- Glass, water, etc. Substances which PARTIALLY allow light to pass through them are considered to be TRANSLUCENT. Eg :- Oily paper, tissue, etc. Substances which does not allow light to pass through them are called OPAQUE SUBSTANCES. Eg :- Clay, wood, etc.

Magnesium ribbon is cleaned before burning to remove the layer of magnesium oxide or carbonate

Pritisha Sarangi 4 years, 4 months ago

Magnesium ribbon is cleaned before burning in order to remove the layer of basic magnesium oxide which is formed due to the slow action of moisture on it

Sarita Panda 4 years, 4 months ago

Magnesium ribbon has a coating of 'magnesium oxide' and some impurities on its surface. MgO is formed by the slow action of moist air on it. So, Mg ribbon is cleaned with sand paper in oder to remove the layer of these oxides.

Adithya Dev A 4 years, 4 months ago

There always exist a chance that magnesium would react with air even before burning to obtain a layer of magnesium carbonate over the metal. This slows down the pace of the reaction of air with the metal ribbon. To remove this layer, the ribbon should be cleaned.
