it has no linear term and the constant term is negative.
Let p(x) = x2 + ax + b.
Put a = 0, then, p(x) = x2 + b = 0
⇒ x2 = -b
⇒ x = ± ±√-b
[∴b < 0]
Hence, if one of the zeroes of quadratic polynomial p(x) is the negative of the other, then it has no linear term i.e., a = O and the constant term is negative i.e., b< 0.
Alternate Method
Let f(x) = x2 + ax+ b
and by given condition the zeroes area and – α.
Sum of the zeroes = α- α = a
=>a = 0
f(x) = x2 + b, which cannot be linear,
and product of zeroes = α .(- α) = b
⇒ -α2 = b
which is possible when, b < 0.
Hence, it has no linear term and the constant term is negative.

By Euclid's division algorithm
b = aq + r,0 ≤ r < a [∵ dividend = divisor × quotient + remainder]
⇒ 117 = 65 × 1 + 52
⇒ 65 = 52 × 1 + 13
⇒ 52 = 13 × 4 + 0
∴ HCF (65,117) = 13 ...(i)
Also, given that, HCF (65,117) = 65m - 117 ...(ii)
From Eqs.(i) and (ii),
65m - 117 = 13
⇒ 65m = 130
⇒ m = 2

So, from the factorisation of 3 and 9, we can say that 9 is the LCM of 3 and 9. Hence, we can say that the HCF and LCM of the smallest odd composite number and the smallest odd prime number are 3 and 9 respectively.

As given, when the original time is 10, it shows 9.10 on the watch, hence we can conclude that the watch is running 50 minutes slow( the time shown is 50 minutes behind the actual time). Hence, when the watch shows 11, the actual time should be 50 minutes ahead, which is 11.50.
